ANPP Modernization Works Continue

Scheduled planning works on ANPP Unit 2 Lifetime Extension Program will continue this year. According to Artem Petrosyan, the head of the Atomic Energy Division of the Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, it is expected to carry out planning works of modernization of power generating unit equipments, systems and structures, the calculating basis of residual capacity of the equipments, activities aimed at improving radiation safety level. As a result a modernization project of second power system equipment and systems will be developed, as well as the possibility of further exploitation of irreplaceable and non-renewable equipment will be substantiated.

According to Artem Petrosyan, the Lifetime Extension Program first phase works planned to implement in 2016 have been successfully completed. More than 4,500 units of equipment, systems and components have been inspected, as a result of which the possibility of extending the operation period of ANPP Unit 2 was confirmed with defined conditions.

Inspections carried out within ANPP Unit 2 Lifetime Extension Program activities revealed no defects that would prevent to extend reactor site exploitation period for 10 years.
