Power system - Heat Energy
Electricity generation in southern regions of the USSR, that had restricted fuel and energy resources, was carried out on the basis of district heating cogeneration. Therefore, construction of thermal power plants was started in energy-intensive industrial centers of Armenia, in Yerevan - in 1960, in Vanadzor – in 1961, in Hrazdan - in 1963. The construction of Yerevan TPP was carried out by the construction department of Armhydroenergostroy".
In 1965 the enterprise "Hrazdan TPP" was founded.
In 1969 electrical capacity of Hrazdan TPP reached 300 MW, and heat supply capacity – 560 Gcal/h (650 MW). But the construction of mining and chemical enterprise was incomplete, which caused the thermal underloading of the aggregates. Thus, in 1972 the plant generated about 2 bln. kWh electricity, 6 % of which was produced in cogeneration regime.
