Contractor bidders of Armenia-Georgia overhead power line construction tender to be announced in February

Contractor bidders of Armenia-Georgia overhead power line construction tender implemented with an assistance of KfW German Development bank will be announced in February. According to Hayk Harutyunyan, the head of Development and Investment Projects Department of Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources, application deadline for high-voltage stable current converter station and substations is February 6, 2017, application deadline for overhead power line construction is February 8, 2017.

The project goal is to connect Armenian and Georgian energy systems with high-voltage stable current converter station located in Ayrum, near Armenia-Georgia border. The connection from Georgian side will be from Marneuli substation through 500 kW overhead power line.

To implement the first phase over 188 million Euros in loans and grants have been invested.

Afterwards the project will be continued. As a result of implementing second phase activities the capacity of electric power exchange between Armenia and Georgia will reach 700 MW in 2021, and in final stage it will reach 1050 MW based on market requirements and regional cooperation.

Armenia-Georgia overhead power line construction will promote the development of Russia-Georgia-Armenia-Iran North-South regional cooperation in energy sector.
