The First Meeting of Joint Coordinating Committee of the RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and "Rosatom" Company was Held

On October 7, the first session of Joint Coordinating Committee of the RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and "Rosatom" company in Yerevan was held, on extending of operation term of ANPP's second unit.

During the Session the main stages of the operation term extension of the second unit of ANPP, the report of funding, the current results of the overall study of main equipments and security system were been discussed.

After the Session, the RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan and the CEO of "Rosatom" company Sergey Kiriyenko signed an Intergovernmental Agreement on "Operational awareness in the case of nuclear accident and the exchange of information in the area of nuclear and radiological safety.

The signing of the Agreement stems from the requirements of the IAEA (1986, September 26, about operative notification of nuclear accident, Article 9).

The Agreement specifies the conditions of mutual operative awareness in case of the accident in any nuclear power plant in the territory of one of the sides and during the peaceful use of atomic energy.

According to the agreement, the two parties undertake to carry out a permanent exchange of information on nuclear and radiological safety of nuclear objects of two countries.

After the agreement comes into force, the sides should take practical steps towards the implementation of commitments, including the regular exchange of information about the current state of facilities of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

There were also signed 2 other documents on ANPP’s second unit operation extending program:

The Protocol of the Joint Coordinating Committee Session, which was signed by the RA Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan and Director by Development and International Business issues of "Rosatom" K. Komarov.

The Protocol on complete study of the system of ANPP's second unit and on the programming of the preparation of exploitation terms extension.

The document was signed by the acting director of ANPP Movses Vardanyan and CEO of "Rusatom Service" E. Salkov.

22 reporting documents has been donated to the Armenian side, in which were reflected the intermediate results of the works carried out by the Russian side about the general study of ANPP's second unit.

During this time, more than 100 experts have worked in the territory.

During the further works will be explored for more than 4.5 thousands of the plant’s equipments and will be prepared more than 10 thousands documents.

 Note, that the Joint Coordinating Committee was formed in March 2015.

The Committee aims to coordinate the obligations of the parties, to monitor the implementation of the Agreement and to conduct the permanent assessment of the results of the works carried out.

After the signing of the documents, a number of specialists, having years of experience and successes in the field of the nuclear energy development and in the international cooperation were been awarded with medals by "Rosatom" company, including the RA Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan, the acting director general of ANPP Movses Vardanyan, the Chief of the State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee under the RA Government Ashot Martirosyan and others.
