The preparatory works for the construction of new substation of “Yerevan Thermo Power Plant” have launched. The construction is being carried out within the framework of “Electricity Transmission Network Improvement” program with the funding of International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Technical Director of the company Arkadi Gevorgyan says currently the works on preparing the construction park are ongoing.
“After the implementation of the program “Yerevan Thermo Power Plant” will have new 220 kilovolt substation which will create conditions for cutting the frequency of devices’ failure, raise the reliability and efficiency of the work of the substation, will give an opportunity to transfer the electricity produced by the new thermo energy unit to the system,” Arkadi Gevorgyan said.
The construction of the new substation is planned to be finished in 2018. The construction works are being carried out by AB SUBSTATIONS AND COBRA INSTALACIONES Y SERVICIOS S.A. (Sweden/Spain) Consortium. The total cost of the program is around 17 million euros.
The acting substation of the “Yerevan Thermo Power Plant” was exploited in 1963. In case of its failure the substation turns off from the network and a necessity of operating more expensive powers raises. This is the reason why the uninterrupted supply of electricity produced in “Yerevan Thermo Power Plant” is extremely important, especially in case when around 20% of the whole electricity produced in Armenia comes to its share.
