On June 14, the Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources of Armenia Ashot Manukyan had a meeting with the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia H.E. Mr. Richard Mills.
Investment projects expected in energy field were discussed.
“We prepared a number of investment projects, and now I would like to present two of them”, said the Minister, stressing that the investment projects will continue.
The US Ambassador was introduced particularly the construction project of Shnogh hydro station and the construction project of thermal power plant generating electricity by household waste recycling in Hrazdan (waste-to energy plant).
Shnogh hydropower station is expected to be built on river Debed. The installed capacity is 76 MgW. According to preliminary calculations, the investments will cost over 150 million USD.
“The implementation of the project will allow using the existing water potential. This will give new employment opportunities in Lori province, Minister Manukyan said.
Touching upon the project of the construction process of the waste-to-energy plant the Minister highlighted its both economic and social significance particularly for creating new jobs.
Welcoming the presented initiative Mr. Richard Mills stresses that American companies are interested in energy field of Armenia. The Ambassador expressed readiness to present these projects to US companies.
At the meeting the issues related to ongoing activities of energy market liberalization of Armenia were touched upon. Ashot Manukyan stressed that the liberalization of energy market is one of the priorities of the Government of Armenia.
