Participants of Tender for Construction of Armenia-Georgia Overhead Power Line are known

Eight companies and one consortium submitted applications to take part in the international tender to choose contractor organizations for the construction project of Armenia-Georgia overhead power line and substations. They are well-known companies from different countries.

Chinese Sinohydro Corporation, German Siemens AG Company and Swedish-Spanish ABB AB-COBRA consortium applied for the construction of high-voltage direct current transformer station and substations to be installed in Ayrum.

The applicants for the construction of electricity transmission overhead power line are six. They are Sinohydro Corporation LTD (China), Isolux Ingenieria (Spain), Dalekovod JSC (Croatia), Kaskad-Energo OOO (RF), KEC International Limited (India) and Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited (India) companies.

The winners of the tender will be determined after examining the submitted packages.

Armenia-Georgia overhead power transmission line and substations project financed by German Development bank (KfW) aims to connect Armenian and Georgian energy systems. Thus, in first phase the electricity exchange capacity between the 2 countries will increase to 350 MW from the current 200 MW, in the second phase 700 MW, and in final phase it will increase up to 1050 MW based on market and regional cooperation requirements.

As a result of the project the energy systems of Georgia and Armenia will have an opportunity to work in asynchronous regime. Overhead power line construction will promote the development of regional north-south Russia-Georgia-Armenia-Iran cooperation in energy sector.

188 million Euros in loans and grants (10 million Euros from the EU funds) were engaged to implement the first stage. The construction is planned to start this year.
