Drilling Works Carried Out in Qarqar Showed Positive Results

Drilling works carried out for the construction of geothermal station in Qarqar showed quite positive Results. Summarizing the results of implemented works in 2016, Hayk Harutyunyan, the Deputy Minister of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources announced. 2 boreholes were drilled, one is up to 1500 m, and the other is 1684 m in depth.

The final results of drilling will be represented in next January. But according to initial data given by consultants at a depth of 2500m we can get 180 °C temperature and fluid respectively which is a good basis for constructing a geothermal complex station. It's intended to build a station with a capacity of 30 MW, the productivity of which will be over 200 million kWh annually. It is 3 percent of Armenia's domestic consumption.

Deputy Minister also mentioned that there are such geothermal sites not only in Sisian but also in Jermaghbyur, Berdzor and in some parts of Armenia-Georgia border.
