Projects Being Implemented to Increase Power System Reliability

In order to increase reliability of the energy system of Armenia the reconstruction of 230 km long overhead power line of "Noradus-Lichk-Vardenis Vayk-Vorotan-1" transmission line being implemented by the financing of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be completed in the first half of next year. The main part of the works has been completed. The line connects two power generating stations of the system, "Hrazdan" OJSC and Vorotan Cascade power plant.

The project aims to increase not only the reliability of energy system, but also the power capacity. As a result of the reconstruction the line's capacity will increase from 250 MW to 310 MW, the technical parameters will improve, the losses will decrease from 1.6 percent to 0.7 percent.

With the funds saved within the project 50 km long overhead power lines "Lalvar" and "Noyemberyan" with capacity of 110 kV will be reconstructed which have been operating since 1962.  As a result of international competition held in August a general contractor agreement was signed with Iranian "Gam Arak" company for about 4.4 million US dollars. Next year it is planned to complete the substations reconstruction drafting and to launch the construction.
