The Government has proposed an initiative towards the market liberalization

The Government of the Republic of Armenia has proposed to liberalize the country's energy market and provide a broader framework for competition. In order to achieve this goal it is planned to improve the legislative framework in the field of energy, which on its turn would create the necessary conditions for the liberalization of the electricity market, as well as for the development of the interstate trade.

According to the draft proposed in the framework of the Government meeting on July 29, until May 31 2017, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in cooperation with the Public Services Regulatory Commission, should provide a timetable-plan for the electricity market liberalization and the adoption of measures for the development of the interstate trade, prepare a draft law on amendments and subsequent additions to the law "on energy" and present it to the discussion of the Government.
