Armenia will receive a 20 million USD grant from the Green Climate Fund for the improving of energy saving sector. A corresponding decision was adopted at the meeting of the Green Climate Fund in Songdo, South Korea.
Armenia is the first country in CIS, which receives such funding.
The project was developed and presented by the UN Development Program (UNDP): It is the first in Central and Eastern Europe, which is approved by the board.
The funds will be spent on improving the energy efficiency of public and private buildings. The program will help to create favorable conditions for energy saving.
The GCF is guided by the principles and provisions of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, in order to help vulnerable societies adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change. The GCF is accountable to the United Nations. It was established by 194 members.
