With the purpose of the construction of gas distribution network in Meghri and Agarak communities, which are on the border with Iran, almost all needed equipments and materials are taken to Armenia. All tubes, gas distribution station, valves and other equipments imported to Armenia within this project are properly stored in the storage of "Gasprom Armenia" CJSC, which is located in Meghri.
The remaining part of the equipments will be purchaised from the inner market.
The main contractor of the project, in the face of "Sunergy" Iranian company, has already begun these works, also.
It should be reminded, that the Governments of Iran and Armenia had signed a Memorandum of Understanding on supporting Armenia, in December, 2011. In the frame of the Memorandum, the Government of Iran has agreed to supply 2 million US dollars as a grant for carrying out the construction of the gas distribution network in Meghri and Agarak communities, which are near the border with Iran.
The Armenian side has assumed the costs related to the taxes, customs duties and other compulsory payments exacting from transactions such as the supplying of the goods and services at the expense of the providing funds.
The project implementation was interrupted because of the termination of funding by the Iranian side.
The project was restarted at the end of last year, and now is going the process of giving permission for the construction to the contractor company.
There was a need to make some changes in the RA Law "On Licensing", and because of that, the implementation of the project has slowed down somewhat in this phase.
The Legislative changes have already been made, and it is expected, that the contractor company from the end of February to the beginning of March will get the permission, after that the construction of gas distribution network in Meghri and Agarak communities will start.
It is expected to complete the construction works during the 6-7 months.
