20 Years have Passed Since the Reopening of ANPP

It was fulfilled the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the Armenian nuclear power plant.

As it is known, after the temporary pause of six and a half years, the plant's second reactor was been reopened on November 5, in 1995. Since then, the unit has successfully exploited.

Over the past 20 years, there were implemented around the 1.5 thousands of measures to increase the security level of the station.

The deadline of ANPP's second unit was extended for the first time in 2006.

On 13 September, 2013, the Government decided to extend the ten years period after the end of the 10 years.

 

For this purpose there was signed an agreement between the Governments of the Armenia and Russia on support for the implementation of the second unit's operation extending project and providing of financial resources.

 

The Russian government has allocated of 270 million US dollars as a loan and 30 million of US dollars as a grant.

 

It is planned to implement the next ten-year program of the extension of plant's operation in two phases.

The study of the equipments and systems will be carried out in the first phase, and the replacement and modernization of their in the second phase.

The program also includes the measures to increase the safety level of the plant.

 

There is expected to extend the operation term of ANPP until 2017 in the result of the measures planned.
