The Armenian Delegation has Participated in the 59th Session of the IAEA General Conference

From 14 to 18 of September, the delegation headed by the RA Deputy Minister of the Energy and Natural Resources Areg Galstyan, was in Vienna to participate in the 59th Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s General Conference.

The delegation members were: the resident representative in international organizations in Vienna, Armenian Ambassador to Austria Arman Kirakosyan, Head of the State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee Ashot Martirosyan, the Secretary of the Nuclear Safety Council under the RA President, CEO of "Armatom" company Vahram Petrosyan, the Acting Executive Director of Armenian NPP Movses Vardanyan, as well as other specialists of the sphere.

The RA Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, head of the Armenian delegation Areg Galstyan has underscored in his speech the importance of role of the IAEA in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and has referred to the long term and fruitful cooperation of the RA with IAEA, emphasizing the role and provided support of the IAEA in the process of increasing the safety of the Armenian nuclear power plant.

  The delegation has meetings with the representatives of the United States Energy Department, the IAEA Physical Protection Department, as well as a number of other delegations within the framework of the General Conference.

During the meetings the sides have discussed issues of further cooperation. The RA delegation’s members have participated in the Academic Forum headed "Atomic Energy for Industry".

On September 17, under the auspices of IAEA, was held the 7th Session of the Conference of donor countries of international support coordination in order to increase the security level of the Armenian NPP.

The representatives of IAEA, the US, EU, Russia and the Czech Republic have taken part in the discussions of the Session.

The attendees have stressed the importance of the current format of cooperation and outlined the further priorities.
