02.03.2015 The Energy Projects were Discussed in Germany

On February 27, the RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan, during his visit to Germany has met with the member of the Council of German Federal Development Credit Bank (KFW) Roland Ziller and with the regional director of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Eva Witt.

During the meeting there were discussed KFW Bank-financed projects implementing process, in particular, the opportunity of parallel implementation of the 2nd phase of the Armenian-Georgian high-voltage 400kV transmission line construction project with the first phase.

The sides have noted the importance of Armenia-Georgia 400 kV power transmission line construction, which is of great importance for the regional integration process of energy systems.

On 9 December 2014, between the KFW bank, the RA Ministry of Finance and the "High Voltage Networks" CJSC were signed the loan and project agreements of the "Caucasian transmission network I (Armenia-Georgia transmission line / substations)" program, by the amounts of 75 million and 10.2 million Euros.

It is circulating the issue of 10 million Euros loan Agreement on project co-financing by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The program also provides for the grant investment, up to 10 million Euros, which will be provided by the EU's Commission, under the “Neighbourhood Investment Facility ("NIF").

This project aims to connect the Armenian and Georgian energy systems near Georgian border in Ayrum (Armenia) by the installed 500/400/220 kV high-voltage constant power converter station (the final capacity of 1050 MW).

It is planned to build of 400/220 kV capacity substation in Hrazdan region with the aim of connecting the Armenia- Georgia and Iran-Armenia overhead power lines of 400 kV.

The construction of the power transmission line will significantly promote the regional mutually beneficial cooperation in the energy sector, as well as will be set up precondition for organizing the parallel working with the energy system of CIS countries.

The Minister Yervand Zakharyan thanked the Government of German Federal Republic and KFW Bank for supporting to implementation of Armenia's energy sector projects and noted, that the implementation of many important programs outlined in the energy development strategy is also scheduled in the framework of cooperation between the Governments of Armenia and Germany, by the KFW Bank’s assets.

Roland Ziller has noted in his turn, that Armenia is an important partner for them, and the energy sector is one of the key directions of KFW Bank financing.

During his visit to Germany, the Minister Yervand Zakharyan has met with the State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany Uve Bekmayer.There were discussed the issues concerning the Armenian-German cooperation in the energy sector.

Yervand Zakharyan has presented the current situation and prospects of development of Armenia's energy system.

The State Secretary Uve Bekmayer also highly appreciated the Armenian-German cooperation in the energy sector.

The interlocutors have noted with satisfaction that the cooperation within the framework of the Armenian-German Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries is rather effective.

The Minister Yervand Zakharyan thanked the Government of Germany for continuous support to the implemented and intended projects in the energy sector.

Uve Bekmayer has noted, that the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy of the German Federal Republic will support to Armenia to involve the investments of German companies’ in the renewable energy sector as well.
