The Program Versions of Energy System’s Development by the Minimal Costs are Being Discussed

On November 28, the program versions of Armenia’s energy system’s development by the minimal costs were discussed in the "Imperium Plaza" business center.

The program was developed by the support of the USAID, and there were participated the specialists of the Energy Research Institute using the modern software package of modeling available in the institute.

The first program of Armenia’s energy system’s development by the minimal costs had also been developed with the support of USAID in 2006, which was the basis for the development of the energy sector strategic documents.

According to those documents, it was planned to put into operation the new nuclear power plant by the end of 2020.

However, because of the financial crisis and other objective reasons it was been unable to settle within the specified timeframe. That is why the government decided to extend the ANPP’s second energy unit’s operation period.

In accordance with the Executive Order of the RA President No. 182-N, of October 23, 2013, about the Armenia's energy security concept approval, it is need to ensure the safe operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant until the moment, when it will be possible to replace with the new nuclear unit and decommissioning without of economic, social, environmental and energy nature negative consequences.

The putting into operation of ANPP’s new nuclear power unit, by the capacity up to 1,000 MW is scheduled for 2026.

The above mentioned issue, the visual trends of the deepening of regional integration and expansion, as well as the reduction of prices in the separate branches of renewable energy, particularly technologies and equipments used in solar energy made it necessary to revise Armenia's energy system’s development program by the minimal costs.

Today the study optimizes the country’s primary energy carrier’s consumption and suggests the scripts of development, which minimize the country’s energy costs during the observed period up to the 2036.

The conclusions included in the program of Armenia’s energy system’s development by the minimal costs basically confirm the necessity of implementation of the projects adopted in strategic documents.
