Тhe Laboratory for Technical and Forensic Analysis of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials Is opened at the ANPP
Օn January 18, the laboratory for technical and forensic analysis of nuclear and radioactive materials was opened at the Armenian NPP. The laboratory has set up by the U.S. State Department’s founds for technical support. The laboratory has an aim to realize an analysis for the nuclear and radioactive materials. It will be possible to increase the efficiency of works against the spread of weapons of mass destruction, as well as of nuclear and radioactive materials due to this laboratory.
The U.S. delegation by the leadership of the U.S. Ambassador in Armenia John Heffern, the employees of the Energy and Natural Resources and of Foreign Affairs Ministries, the ANPP and National Security Service employees, and RA experts of the field attended the laboratory opening ceremony.
The Government of RA highlights the necessity of creating of the expertise organization in order to struggle against the spread of weapons of mass destruction, as well as of nuclear and radioactive materials, and welcomes the opening of the laboratory for technical and forensic analysis of nuclear and radioactive materials at the Armenian NPP.
In 2004, there was adopted a decision by the United Nations Security Council, which was considered weapons of mass destruction and the spread of nuclear and radiological materials as a threat to international peace and security.
The Republic of Armenia has adopted a number of regulations to ensure the provisions of UN Security Council resolution.
The policy in this area is under the RA Government control and the regulatory legislation is being constantly updated.
The Republic of Armenia has adopted a series of regulations aimed to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
There was an agreement reached between the U.S. and the Republic of Armenia on international cooperation and mutual assistance within the frame of the combating the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
In this regard, an agreement on the fight against the spread of weapons of mass destruction and the cooperation between U. S. and RA governments has been signed in 2008.
