Today a plenary meeting of the Technical Commission on increasing the reliability and efficiency of operation of the power system of Armenia took place which was chaired by Gagik Martirosyan, Chief Advisor to the RA Prime Minister. The process of preparations for the construction of a new Armenia-Georgia high-voltage line was discussed. Approved by the project sponsored by German KfW Bank the technical task formed as a result of discussions with the "Fichter" consulting firm. According to the technical task, the program is divided into phases. The first phase envisages reconstruction of a 220 kV substation, a 400 kV substation, as well as the construction of a new high-voltage line to the Armenia-Georgia state border. Next stage is the construction of a 500 kV substation and a fixed power transformer station. In order to increase the effectiveness of the project, the existing substations will be first used, the reconstruction of which is less costly than the construction of the new one.
At the same time, already existing infrastructures with an energy targeted land plot intended for the construction of a new substation, a solar power plant will be built, its costs will be reduced due to the existing infrastructure. As a result, the full cost of the program will be reduced to at least 30 percent. In addition, at least 20 percent of the cost of solar photovoltaic station will be built with real economy.
It was underlined that the first stage of the project should be completed by the end of the construction of the third Iran-Armenia high-voltage line. In general, the program should be implemented simultaneously with construction of the third high-voltage line Iran-Armenia and the second power unit of the Yerevan Thermal Power Plant.
