On February 26 the RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan has hosted Janez Kopac, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat and expert of Energy Community Secretariat Svetlana Karpyshyna.

The issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed.

Taking into consideration the fact that the EU program “Inogate” will be over in April 2016, the European Commission decided that cooperation with Eastern Partnership countries in energetic sphere will be continued in a new format. It will be implemented by the Energy Community and the International Energy Agency.

The purpose of the visit of the Director of the Energy Community Secretariat was to present a new format of EU assistance. The duration of EU Energy Community project is 4 years. It is planned to harmonize legislative and other legal acts with the EU legislation, which mustn’t contradict the obligations that Armenia has being the member of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The cooperation will include the spheres of renewable energy, energy efficiency, the sphere of energy policy and statistics.

It was decided during the meeting, that the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia will discuss and present the assistance for the implementation of the project to the Energy Community.

Remind, that the Energy Community was established in 2005. The treaty establishing the Energy Community brings together the European Union and eight countries (Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine, Moldova). In 2011 Armenia was granted observer status in EU Energy Community.

The mission of the organization is to extend the EU internal energy market to South East Europe and Black sea region, to create stable regulated and united market, to ensure safe energy appliance and environmental protection projects.
